Lots of gamblers have their own superstitions and customs. Some of them range from the comical to the just plain weird and sometimes even creepy. This is not unlike some sports players who do certain rituals thinking it will help them perform better. But in this case people will do the weirdest things just for the illusion of better luck at the casino. Here are some of the most classic rituals or objects people focus their superstitions on.
Lots of gamblers start any gambling session in a casino by putting on their “Lucky” piece of clothing. This can be anything from a t-shirt given to them by family or a piece of jewelry they just feel brings good luck. They usually get this habit due to winning a lot at one point while wearing a particular piece of clothing. Thus, people get the impression that if they wear that particular item it will always bring good luck.
Then we come to the subject of lucky charms. This is where things really get weird. We all know the rabbit’s foot superstition but in today’s world you’re going to see a lot of strange charms that are believed to bring good fortune. You will commonly see casino patrons with pictures of loved ones, gifts given to them by their children or even a lucky doll. Some of them will even rub the chips or the cards against these charms hoping that the luck rubs off. When they win they always thank the charms and when they lose they think it’s because they didn’t place it in the correct place or didn’t use it properly.
I’ve saved the best part for last because it always brings a smile to my face. The last tactic that people use is magic. Of course there are no wands or owls involved, this is not Hogwarts. Just simple people making weird gestures and mumbling sacred vows to themselves like they’re suffering from OCD. It might seem mental when you look at them but never interrupt them during their ritual or you’ll never hear the end of it.
So whether you believe such things or not, there are millions of people out there who do. And they take this kind of stuff very seriously. Especially when they think that their gambling “career” is on the line because of it.
