The votes are finally in. Online rummy is not considered gambling, at least in the state of India. This Thursday, the Supreme Court of India has finally come to a conclusion regarding online rummy and whether it is a game of skill or luck. This comes after petitions from clubs and online rummy companies who were challenging a ruling by a Madras high court that playing rummy with stakes is clearly a form of gambling.
The Supreme Court has decided thought that the verdict only affects table rummy, not the online equivalent. A lot of online games like rummy have a way for a lot of Indians to fulfill their love for gambling. Sources say that the market has grown 400 perfect in the past few years.
While India is known as being very strict about gambling it seems that there are clear signs of progress nowadays. Earlier in this year, the Supreme Court has declared playing cards as a physical sport since you need to use your hands to play cards. I only wish it were this easy for courts to come to logical conclusions in other countries as well.
It would seem that the governing powers in India as finally starting to crack under the pressure of the public demanding the legalization of gambling in any way, shape or form.
