In Connecticut the two officially recognized tribes are finally allowed to build and run a new casino. Among pro arguments for the bill was the fact that a new casino would be beneficial in fighting off competition.
The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes would need to affiliate to a host community and then forward the collaboration proposal to lawmakers for consideration. This partnership will also need federal approval.
Rep. Stephen Dargan, Co-chairman of the Public Safety Committee stated that by approving a new casino, Connecticut is focusing on increasing the number of jobs in the state area.
This bill has been reformulated. Initially, the bill demanded that three other casinos would be opened under the ownership of the two tribes. Certain legal concerns resulted in limiting the bill’s requirements to just one casino.
The two tribes stated that they are willing to invest millions in order to find the best site for the new casino, preferably in the state’s northern area.
Among positive voices that praised the many benefits of the new bill were experienced casino workers, pleased at the prospect of new job opportunities.
